PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE

Peaceful co-existence is the principle of tolerance between two different ideologies..The necessity of peaceful co-existence in the modern world is very great.India and Pakistan both the power blocs have made an amazing progress in the field of nuclear research and invention of nuclear weapons.This policy of armament keeps the peace-loving humanity in a perpetual state of panic,terror and suspense.The result is an unnecessary expenditure on defence and consequent strain on the economy of these countries.It is easy to understand that any further war will be destructive for both the blocs.Nuclear confrontation does not promise victory to one side.It is harmful both to the victor as the vanquished..It is for this reason that peaceful co-existence becomes an indispensable principal between neighbours as also powers dissimilar ideologies.

The idea of peaceful co-existence is not new.Lenin was the first to plead for this with other nations..Even if they do not like each other's economic,political or cultural ideologies, they have to co-exist..India's first Prime Minister, Late Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru offered his historic formula of panch Sheel,the relevance of which will never be lost in world politics.He offered the following principles of co-existence in his famous Panch Sheel..

1.Mutual respect for each other's territory & independence..

2.Non-aggression..

3.Non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

4.Equality and mutual benefit.

5.Peaceful co-existence.

It is said that China to whom this formula was offered by India did not behave properly,which does not mean that Panch Sheel was wrong.In fact the Chinese were wrong. They will have to realise one day that peaceful co-existence is the only solution to the discord between the democratic and communist blocs in the world..The ideologies of peaceful co-existence is denied by very few nations but seldom practised.

To conclude, the policy of peaceful co-existence is a must for our present day world..We cannot afford to fight wars in the name of our own partisan ideologies.We have to learn the truth that all nations whether they are weak or strong, whether they follow this or that type of economic or political system, have the right to live without interference.In short peaceful co-existence means : Live and Let Live..Each system has its own merits and demerits: The world cannot be transformed into a uniform pattern of life.Diversity will remain.Hence tolerance of and respect fir the principles of others is the only key to peace and prosperity..The only limits to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.Let us move forward with strong and active faith..
